MORE THAN 1.6 BILLION PEOPLE LIVE WITHOUT ELECTRICITY.
A total of 1.6 billion people have no access to electricity, 80% of them in India and sub-Saharan Africa, shows a recent International Energy Agency (IEA) study on the world energy outlook to 2030. Some 580 million people live without electricity in India and over 500 million in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the IEA. The majority of these people live on an average of 2 dollars a day. But the study shows that income is not the key factor in determining access to electricity, as seen in the case of China.
