Crank your engines, Great Race is here Classic cars breeze through Pleasanton in the last stretch of a cross- country rally

PLEASANTON -- It resembled an auto museum on the move.

Antique cars -- sporting bicycle-thin tires and rumble seats -- cruised through downtown Pleasanton to the cheers of hundreds of local residents.

Pleasanton was a stop on "The Great Race 2004," a cross-country race from Jacksonville, Fla., to Monterey.

Valley residents lined Main Street waving American flags and cheering as each race car passed. Billed as the country's longest running and richest vintage automobile rally, the cross-country race features more than $4 million worth of classic cars.

Bill and Rose Faler of Pleasanton stood on the sidelines to watch the cars pass through Pleasanton. …
