In Brookland, a Street Still Open for Business; Pizza Parlor, Liquor Stores Busy as Other Shops Wait Patiently for Customers

Time waits for no man. And it certainly doesn't wait for any hurricane.

Because of that, William Anthony didn't let rain and wind and a seemingly shuttered city keep him from opening Brookland Watch, Clock & Jewelry Clinic yesterday.

"What am I going to do?" said Anthony, the tiny tools of his trade scattered on two workbenches, the walls covered in softly ticking clocks. "Stay home and look out the window?"

Because of plucky businessmen such as Anthony, consumers yesterday could hopscotch their way down 12th Street NE -- Brookland's commercial corridor -- perusing various establishments that were open.
