Cracking open a desk drawer only to discover copious clumps of hair might send some people screaming.

But for Bruce Lund, it's just any old day at work.

The toy inventor's Chicago office bursts with motors, wheels, synthetic hair and headless dolls.

The 55-year-old Lund, considered one of the best in the industry, encourages creativity without restrictions, he told a group of business leaders and alumni Monday at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Wheaton.

"There's a lot of seat-of-the-pants engineering that goes into it," he said.
