Despite a well-publicized slugfest with rival Lowe's, Home Depot remains the industry leader in home improvement products, just last month posting record third-quarter net earnings.

Nonetheless, the Atlanta-based company will try to convince Carpentersville leaders it needs a little help coming to town.

Village board members Tuesday night reviewed a proposal from Home Depot, which wants to open a 130,000-square-foot store on the site of the former Spring Hill Mall Theater.
