Indiana Gov. Joe Kernan July 8 selected Amy Strati to serve as interim commissioner for the Department of Insurance to replace Commissioner Sally McCarty.

Strati, the department's chief legal counsel, started the new position July 15, a day after McCarty left to begin work as a consultant with the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at St. Vincent Hospital.

Strati joined the department as a staff attorney in 1993 and became chief legal counsel in 1997.

Kernan spokesman Jonathan Swain said the search for a permanent replacement will take place later this year. …
