Of the UK pharmacists who volunteered to help in the tsunami aftermath, Adam Issat, an employee of Moss Pharmacy, now Alliance Pharmacy, tells his tale

On December 26, 2004 the world witnessed one of the greatest disasters in human history. Reports from the Far East emerged describing an underwater seismic disturbance in the Pacific Ocean generating huge waves travelling at speeds of up to 500 miles per hour. BBC News 24 described the phenomena as a `tsunami'; a term I was unfamiliar with.

Sitting at home, I performed a quick internet search on Yahoo. The answer: a Japanese term for `harbour wave' followed by a few reports of tsunamis in Alaska and Chile in the 1960s with devastating consequences.
