WHERE THE CHIPS FELL

The maker of one of the nation's toniest snack-chip brands, Terra Chips, has moved its production plant from New York to New Jersey, becoming another manufacturer that has found it easier and cheaper to do business outside the five boroughs.

The Hain Celestial Group has exited Brooklyn, where its plant could not meet growing demand, to a Moonachie, N.J., building three times as large, leaving the city with 90 fewer jobs.

Gary Jacobs, executive vice president of operations at Hain, said the Melville, L.I.-based company would have stayed in the city, but simply could not find a space that was affordable when it went prospecting more than a year ago.
