Dan Rini used to think of himself as an engineer, not an entrepreneur. His alma mater, the University of Central Florida, and its business incubator helped quickly change his self-perception.

Rini Technologies Inc. was born soon after Rini received his doctorate in 2000. The company won its first government contract that June when the Department of Defense asked Rini to demonstrate the feasibility of its cooling technology for high-powered laser weapons.
