COUNTY BOARD SEEKS NEW LEGAL COUNSEL

The DuPage County Board wants Jim Sotis to step away from his role as legal counsel for the county in the civil litigation stemming from the prosecution of two men once charged and convicted of killing a 10-year-old Naperville girl in 1983. Sotis currently is the lawyer representing the county and several of its employees in suits filed by Rolando Cruz and Alejandro Hernandez.

The two were once charged with Jeanine Nicarico's death.

Cruz was twice convicted and sentenced to die when in 1995 a DuPage County judge dismissed the charges against him because a sheriff's deputy gave, what the judge called, false testimony.
