Women don't sit still for shoeshine: 'It's just weird to have a guy at your feet'

It's a little less personal than a pedicure.

Yet most women don't take a shine to sitting in a chair to get their shoes polished the old-fashioned way.

"It's a man thing," joked Elight Starling, who only gets three to four female customers each day at the Merchandise Mart's K & J Shine stall. "It always was."

Chicago-based Sara Lee Corp. certainly understands what Starling means. That's why the company recently announced it will expand its Kiwi shoe polish line -- not with traditional polish, but with a more modern-sounding "Color Gloss" and additional foot-care products geared toward women.
