Anita Treinen drove a front-loader in from her pumpkin patch with 50 pumpkins to add to the 960 or so orange spheres already brightening her front lawn on Highway 51 near DeForest.

``We were singing a song out there,'' the weary woman said of herself and a hardy helper, Jack Wendtland, 12. ``A-a-a-Men. A-a-a-Men. We're done with the pun'kins! A-a-Men!''

The seasonal bounty of pumpkins, corn shocks and gargantuan pots of chrysanthemums (two for $30) at the Treinen's Pine Lodge Farm attracted a lot of shoppers Saturday. The last day of September was overcast, but mellow and warm.

Geese, ducks and sandhill cranes were massing for their flights south. …
