CLEANUP BEGINS AT HINDS COUNTY WOOD PRESERVING SITE IN LEARNED, MISSISSIPPI

The Environmental Protection Agency Region 4 office issued the following news release:

The EPA cleanup of hazardous waste at the Hinds County Wood Preserving Site in Learned, Hinds County, Miss. began in November 2006. The removal of hazardous waste at the Hinds County Wood Preserving Site is a short-term cleanup intended to stabilize the site and remove any hazards it may pose to human health and the environment.

A release of hazardous substances (creosote and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (commonly known as PAHs)) occurred at the Site and, as a result, has contaminated surface and subsurface soils. …
